Description of Bei Shaolin

MALP

Chinese martial arts may be classified as Wudang (internal) that focuses on the use of internal energy (qi/cih); or Shaolin (external) that focuses on the physiological aspect of combat. Bei Shaolin or Norther shaolin refers to external martial arts in Norther China particularly from the Northern Shaolin Monastery in the city of Henan. It was said to be made famouse by Ku Yu Cheung who was said to have travelled all over Northern China and learned all northern kung fu systems. After which, he combined what he have learned and shaped it into what is now known as Bei Shaolin or Northern Shaolin style. It is one of the most prominent traditional northern Chinese martial art and are characterized for their emphasis on wide stances, aggressive attacks, long-ranged techniques such as leaping and kicking, quick advancing and retreating movements, quickness and agility. Bei Shaolin makes use of forms, which the students practice over and over until they become natural. These are then practiced to be part of instinct by practicing it with a partner. They are graceful, artistic and fluid -- trademarks of Bei Shaolin sets.
